Magazine Design for the Ben Kinney Real Estate Team in Boise Idaho
Our first Relocation Magazine for the Ben Kinney Real Estate team ended up being a large departure from my usual booklet design work. Through my various roles, I’ve developed a handful of simple to use magazine templates that both look good and function well. Often in my roles, the top priority for vendors is advertisement density. The recipients also look for a large concentration of helpful services they can rely on in the years following their move into a new home.
I worked extensively with the Realtors over at the Ben Kinney team to craft a new magazine that would be handed out to homeowners new to Idaho. In expanding of my usual magazine design, this publication also included research in regards to the local counties. Several factors such as population, average home prices, commute times, and other measurable metrics needed to be included in the publication in order to drive home that this was a premium marketing book.
This is not to say that the magazine was void of the usual requirements for business networking. In one of my largest publications to date, this 104 page magazine is packed to the brim with information and advertisements. Over 75 unique and varied businesses threw their hat into the proverbial ring, sponsoring the production of this relocation guide, and advertising their services along with it. In my role, I handled not only the coordination with the dozens of marketing and design teams that required artwork to be included, but also personally handled the designs of some of the smaller businesses that didn’t have on-demand marketing materials.
This culminated in organizing a large batch print, and then advertising, organizing, and hosting a networking event to connect the Realtors at the Ben Kinney team with the dozens of business owners who were excited to meet and exchange info with their peers.

& Networking Event Photography
Throughout my career I’ve designed, printed, and distributed dozens of unique magazines with page counts ranging from 20 to 100+. Each publication has had unique requirements for content, specifications, legal requirements, and more.
At the start of my career, I spent a majority of my time simply filling these magazines with advertisements that I would create for businesses. As I progressed, I was put in charge of doing simple book layouts, and worked my way up to content creation and communication with the various teams that would handle the final handoff to the recipient. It wasn’t until the past couple years that I took charge of the entire art pipeline.
I now handle all things art, big and small, to make these magazines shine. I handle print sourcing, quality control, direction of internal and external teams in regards to deadlines and art asset management. And to top it all off, very recently I learned basic event photography and videography in order to drive the professional new appearance of the networking events. While I am still learning, I’m incredibly proud at how my photos were able to capture the energy of the events!
